Literacy Instructor After-School Program

Job Description:
The Reading Specialist will work under the supervision of the Community Life Programs Coordinator (CLPC) and the Community Life Programs Supervisor (CLPS) to ensure the success and quality of the educational and human services programs offered at selected MHP’s affordable housing units located in Montgomery County. This is a part-time position Monday thru Thursday from 3:45pm to 5:45 pm.

Major responsibilities:

✔ Tutor small groups
✔ Create learning goals for each student
✔ Evaluate the participants’ literacy needs
✔ Prepare lesson plans for each age group
✔ Monitor their progress
✔ Write quarterly reports
✔ Meet with the classroom teacher over students learning goals
✔ Inform the CLPC of any classroom concerns
✔ Meet with parents if necessary
✔ Work in collaboration with staff, students, and volunteers



✔ Three years experience working with elementary school children
✔ Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree on Elementary Education, Literacy, or Reading
✔ Excellent oral and written communication skills
✔ Ability to work with diverse communities
✔ Must be flexible and reliable
✔ Must have reliable transportation

Entry level

2-year degree

Minimum: $14.00
Maximum: $16.00
