Our developing programmatic approach is to provide middle and high school youth arts and technology based programming, academic supports and experiential learning opportunities.At MarthaA cents € (TM) s Table, weA cents € (TM) ve developed and implemented older youth programming with a focus on youth and psychosocial development, service learning, academic enrichment, college preparedness and work readiness using creative workshops for over 15 years.WeA cents € (TM) ve received recognition for past youth programming efforts from organizations such as DCTV and DC Department of Employment Services Office of Youth Programs; andOur Healthy Connections Director has been at MarthaA cents € (TM) s Table for 21 years and has help spearhead the efforts to professionalize the field of youth development and establish the youth development outcomes model that is utilized by the DC ChildrenA cents € (TM) s Trust. The Arts provide youth the opportunity to develop creative and critical thinking as well as self-expression and self-worth. We believe that the skills that are cultivated through the arts will make our youth less apprehensive about engaging in technology education. With technology becoming more and more a quintessential literacy skill for youth to advance in their education and to secure the plethora of job opportunities that are being developed, it is essential that Healthy Connections provides its youth the hands on opportunities and supports for them to become creators and not just consumers of technology. Join us!The Healthy Connections program is currently seeking a 15-20 hours per week Creative Computing Instructor to work closely with the program director and other program staff on the design and implementation of a creative computing course using Scratch as the primary medium that will engage middle and high school youth. The candidate will primarily teach the course in a middle school setting during the school day two times per week (Tues/Thur between 12:00-3:15 pm); additionally the candidate may be called upon to engage 9th graders in creative computing activities in a high school setting. The approach to facilitating technology education that we are developing is one that is infused with youth development and the arts. It is essential that our students see technology as a tool to create and innovate and not just the means by which things are processed. We are looking for someone who is passionate about introducing technology to youth who havenA cents € (TM) t already expressed an interest but are consuming technology through their smart phones and other devices on a daily basis.The ideal candidate for this position is an individual with a high level of proficiency in Scratch and three or more yearsA cents € (TM) experience teaching technology in a school and an after school setting with middle and or high school youth. This leader has a portfolio of their own work that they have created in addition to successful approaches to engaging youth that have garnered outputs and outcomes for the youth. Ideal candidates will have a bachelorA cents € (TM) s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in computer science/engineering or related fields and the demonstrated ability to develop and implement technology learning opportunities to youth(who havenA cents € (TM) t already expressed an interest in technology) in a manner that is engaging, educational and incorporates principles of youth development.
