A well-established non-profit organization based in downtown Washington, DC is
seeking a Digital Communications Specialist (DCS) to join our team. The DCS is
primarily responsible for creating and managing electronic communications and digital
content on behalf of the organization. The DCS will also be responsible for developing
and implementing strategies to increase the organization’s online visibility and
influence through its website, newsletters and social media channels. This includes
setting goals and targets, writing, editing and updating content, developing editorial
calendars, and working with internal and external partners. The ideal candidate has a
track record of developing successful online communications campaigns, is
enthusiastic and hard-working, has excellent oral, written, interpersonal and
organizational skills, experience with social media and web analytics, and 3-5 years
related experience.


Works with senior management and communications team to set strategic
online goals; develops and implements digital campaigns and strategies across
email, web, multimedia and social media platforms;
 Develops and leads review and update for the website; works with
communications team to ensure current high-quality written content across the

 Develops and manages editorial calendar for website and newsletters;
 Writes and edits the organization’s online content, including copy for webpages,
social media messages, e-newsletters and other bulk communication tools
(email, text, etc.);
 Proofreads all online marketing communications during approval process;

Conceptualize and develop communications/marketing plans to utilize digital
and social media channels, and to create online/digital copy (including, but not
limited to: blog posts, tweets, status updates, photos and videos);
 Maintains knowledge of current industry practices to make recommendations
to information design and monitors competitive environment to improve and
grow the organization’s online and digital presence;
 Tracks, gathers, and analyzes user data; explores opportunities to increase
website traffic, social media presence and newsletter readership;
 Works closely with communications team to monitor media and social media
and make recommendations for engagement;
 Serves as point of contact for digital vendors;
 Leads web communications training workshops for staff and supports senior
management with social media accounts;
 Serves on committees as assigned; and
 Performs other duties as assigned.


 Minimum of a BA/BS from an accredited college or university required;
 3-5 years of experience in digital communications, public relations, or a related
 A demonstrated ability to effectively use online tools to communicate with and
motivate target groups to take actions, including email, social media and online
video for comparable programs or organizations;
 Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills; superior attention to detail;
 Ability to think strategically, set priorities and manage concurrent projects,
handle pressure, manage time effectively, exercise independent judgment and
assume responsibility for seeing projects through to timely and successful
 Self-motivated; willingness to work independently and as part of a team;

Knowledge and familiarity with web writing and other content development
tools for the Internet;
 Ability to work across-platforms (Mac and Windows OS) and keep up with
technology in quickly changing environment;
 Experience in a non-profit environment and demonstrated interest in
international development;
 Proficiency in operating a camera to create high-quality photo and video
content for web, print and social media;
 Experience with video editing, graphic design, HTML coding, CSS and JavaScript
 Advanced experience with MS Office Suite, particularly Word, PowerPoint and
 Prior media relations experience desired, but not required;
 Willingness to travel – domestic and international (<10%); and
 US Work Authorization Required.
