Performs simultaneous bilingual interpretation into both French and Spanish in the daily execution of the academic curriculum at the IADC campus and while on academic study trips in the United States and abroad. Subjects cover a wide range of topics in the realm of Defense and Security including political, military, financial, and public security areas. (50%)
Performs routine translations into French and Spanish from the same, for documents and slide presentations, as required. Performs translations from French into Spanish, and when requested into English. Texts cover a wide range of political, military, financial, and administrative subjects. (40%)
Conducts any research that may be necessary to check quotations or solve problems of terminology and meaning. (10%)
Provides other language services related to the functions of the translating staff, such as specialized advice and assistance to colleagues in certain subjects.
Participates in all general duties commensurate with office routine.
Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as required.
Telework may be authorized on a case-by-case basis and only as authorized by the Supervisor.
University Degree required. Degree should preferably be in languages or in a course of study pertinent to one of the major areas of the IADC mission and activities.


Two years of experience performing simultaneous interpretation and working translations. In both instances, one of those years is in an international organization where the majority of the incumbent’s duties were working as an interpreter and translator.

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced international political, diplomatic, military, and educational environment with senior officials from multiple countries.

Language Skills

Must have an “A” or “B” language capability in French, Spanish, and English. Must have an excellent understanding of French, Spanish, and English mechanics and a good knowledge of their grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. Have excellent writing ability in all aforementioned languages as well. “C” language capability in Portuguese is preferred, but not required.


Must have a thorough knowledge of all functions associated with office procedures and work. Initiative and resourcefulness required, as well as, capability to produce accurate and timely work under minimum supervision.
Proficiency or ability to develop proficiency in the use of word processing, graphics/software applications, and office equipment. Set up formats with acceptable speed and accuracy.
Ability to type French, Spanish, and occasionally English with acceptable speed and accuracy.
Ability to distinguish the different levels of language, sensitivity to language use, broad cultural background, and knowledge of general editorial practices.
Ability to understand technical material of a medium level of difficulty.
Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a group and with individual colleagues.
Ability to use computer information systems to produce documentation involving merging of Microsoft Word with Power Point and translation software.
Ability to work extensively with electronic mail.
Ability to work rapidly and accurately to meet deadlines.

Must be able to travel in the United States and abroad. Must have a valid passport.


The range of salary for a P2-1

Without dependents : Basic Salary $47,292 and Post adjustment pay $23,078

With dependents : Basic Salary $50,420 and Post adjustment pay $24,605

Retirement pay salary $92,794
