Gallery Assistant to the Director- Full Time – Tuesday – Saturday, 10am - 6pm

Susan Calloway Fine Arts is seeking a Gallery Assistant. We are looking for a personable, reliable, and self-motivated individual. He/she must be able to work independently as well under the direction of the Director. The position requires a Tuesday-Saturday, 10am to 6pm commitment with the possibility of additional hours, depending on event/exhibition schedule and gallery workload. The start date is June 20 or as soon thereafter as possible.

Responsibilities include
• Managing day-to-day gallery operations
• Cultivating and maintaining relationships with gallery artists, clients and collectors
• Organizing and coordinating exhibitions
• Selling artwork
• Organization and maintenance of gallery space / storage
• Art handling: exhibit installation, storage, shipping and packing
• Designing marketing initiatives and materials for both digital and print
• Implementing marketing and PR plan
• Drafting press releases and correspondence
• Managing gallery's social media presence
• Maintaining daily sales journal
• Organizing loans and consignments between other institutions or individuals
• Overseeing and updating the website
• Maintaining inventory of all artwork
• Pursuing corporate projects
• Supervising interns

• College degree or equivalent related experience
• Comfort and experience handling artwork
• Must be able to lift 30lbs or more
• Interest in sales and marketing
• Ability to think creatively
• Demonstrate reliability and flexibility
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of and passion for art and design
• Possess strong administrative and efficient computer skills, particularly familiarity with Google Drive and Google Contacts

Additional Skills
• Ability to understand and adapt to several operating systems
• WordPress
• Robly
• Knowledge and basic photography skills
• Experience with image editing and layout design (Adobe Creative Suite)
An ideal candidate will have strong sales abilities and design sensibilities, excellent communication skills, do well with customer service, and possess strong administrative and efficient computer skills. Prior work in a gallery or arts-related organization is preferred. A background in visual arts is strongly preferred. Salary commensurate with experience and skills.
