SUMMARY Provides administrative, secretarial and editorial support essential to the production of SHOOTING ILLUSTRATED, NRA FAMILY INSIGHTS and SHOOTING SPORTS USA magazines in an efficient and punctual manner. Sorts and distributes incoming mail and packages for the Publications Division. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES A cents ?? SHOOTING ILLUSTRATED 1. Responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the administrative and secretarial functions of SHOOTING ILLUSTRATED. 2. Processes manuscript submissions, including logging-in, routing, payment processing, and post-publication return of material. Loads author-supplied manuscripts into editorial system or keys in manuscripts as required. 3. Proofreads and edits copy and electronic text files. 4. Manages document and correspondence flow through the editorial department and maintains correspondence files. 5. Manages the monthly breakdown of story files and layout flats, and archives them appropriately. 6. Assists and participates in producing original content for the magazine and/or its website, as assigned. 7. Communicates by mail and telephone with NRA members, subscribers, writers, photographers, suppliers and representatives of the shooting and hunting industry. 8. Compiles annual index. 9. Prepares presentations for the editorial staff. 10. Tracks and prepares monthly budget report for the editor in chief for annual editorial and travel expenses. 11. On a daily basis, monitors the magazineA cents ??s email address, routing messages to appropriate individuals for processing and response. 12. Subsequent to approval of the Executive Director, Publications, handles all travel for the magazine. 13. Prepares expense reports for magazineA cents ??s staff. 14. Extended hours as required. Proofreads and edits copy and electronic text files. 3. Assists and participates in producing original content for the magazine and/or its website. 4. Communicates by mail and telephone with NRA members, subscribers, writers, photographers, suppliers and representatives of the shooting and hunting industry. 5. Subsequent to approval of the Executive Director, Publications, handles all travel for the managing editor. 6. Prepares expense reports for the managing editor. 7. Extended hours as required. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES A cents ?? SHOOTING SPORTS USA 1. Responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the administrative and secretarial functions of SHOOTING SPORTS USA. 2. Does proofreading of copy, copy editing and proof correction of electronic text files. 3. Processes payment for manuscripts, photos and other supporting-material submissions. 4. Extended hours as required. SCOPE: Daily coordination with staffs of the three magazines; also coordinates with all departments of Publications and with other NRA divisions. Frequent contact with NRA members, subscribers, writers, photographers, vendors and suppliers. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduate. Bachelors degree preferred. Three to five years experience as an administrative assistant or administrative secretary, preferably in publishing field. Editing experience desired. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Effective administrative, secretarial, organizational and managerial skills. Detail oriented. Ability to deal effectively and harmoniously with other employees, NRA members, subscribers and a wide spectrum of outside suppliers. Ability to type 70-80 wpm with accuracy. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously with minimum supervision. Ability to meet deadlines. In-depth, hands-on experience with computer equipment, computer networks, word processing, standard office software packages and electronic publishing, as well as other types of office equipment.
