Job Description:



As the Director Technical Accounting and Reporting, you will be responsible for ensuring that our external financial statements are delivered accurately, on time and in full compliance with applicable GAAP principles. The responsibilities include areas relating to financial reporting, financial controls and financial compliance. In this position you will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.


This role works closely the CFO, North America, the US Finance Director often collaborates with a variety of stakeholders including US business management and Transurban Group Finance in Australia . You work closely with and help ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner while facilitating coaching, mentoring and staff development.



The impact you'll have:

* You’ll develop and implement improvements to the control framework to support accurate financial reporting; ongoing assessment of risks and associated controls.
* You’ll have opportunities to provide technical accounting oversight and support, addressing complex issues arising from business development activity, M&A, organizational change and change in regulatory requirements.
* You’ll research new accounting treatments as necessary for new transactions or development projects.
* You’ll be required to stay abreast of emerging developments in accounting principles.
* You’ll develop and document accounting policies, procedures and work instructions to maintain accounting compliance and audit controls.
* You’ll produce and present technical white papers to senior management and auditors which outline issue, recommendation and supporting accounting guidance.
* You will play a key role in preparing the interim and full year statements and ensuring accurate and punctual delivery.
* You will ensure continuous review and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to enable accurate and timely completion of half year and full year balance sheet stewardship processes.
* You’ll plan and manage the audit process to ensure effective execution, and efficient and punctual completion.



Job Requirements


The talents you'll bring:

* Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
* CPA qualification
* 10 years of experience in a large organization exposed to all facets of accounting
* Strong technical knowledge across broad base of accounting concepts and principles
* Experience producing comprehensive financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
* Experience with auditing processes
* Ability to efficiently research and identify new accounting positions
* Ability to present ideas, findings and recommendations in a clear and engaging way
* Strong attention to detail
* Superior critical thinking and problem solving ability
* Ability to read and understand complex project and finance documents
* Ability to implement process and control improvements
* Ability to work both in a team and autonomously
* High degree of initiative
* Professional customer service skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks
* Advanced Excel skills
* Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) highly regarded
